Maputo welcomes exhibition of the world’s best photojournalism works
Today (19 December 2019) is the last day of the World Press Photo (WPP) 2019 exhibition that takes place in the Tunduru Garden park in downtown Maputo. Don’t miss it! The 2019 exhibition features the World Press Photo of the Year, and for the first time, the World Press Photo Story of the Year. The winners were chosen by an independent jury that reviewed more than 78,801 photographs entered by 4,738 photographers from 129 countries. The three-week outdoor exhibition was opened by Maputo mayor Eneas Comiche on November 28 and has had more than 10,000 visitors thus far. The WPP exhibition, which follows a similar model for concurrent exhibitions around the world is funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and organized by Midia Lab. A series of related activities took place during the exhibition period, including master classes, workshops and debates on photojournalism and current affairs. “We wanted to create a link between these photos and the challenges the world faces,” said Isabel Jorge, program officer at Midia Lab responsible for the organization of the exhibition and the related activities.
