Association h2n (h2n) is a Mozambican NGO that was registered three years ago today, as a successor organization to the USAID-funded Media Strengthening Program (MSP) implemented between 2012 and 2019. MSP staff members also established two other organizations, Midia Lab (journalism training and media development) and TV Surdo (inclusive media and advocacy for persons with disability).
h2n focuses on five strategic areas: health and nutrition, gender equality, civic participation, youth engagement and early childhood development, and works with community-based communication, produces television programs and videos, organizes youth centers and pursues a comprehensive gender equality agenda. Its main funders are Canada, Norway and USAID. The organization works with several strategic partners, including ADPP, PIRCOM and Comusanas, as well as several media partners.
h2n owns the Xipalapala PSA platform, which has generated more than $200,000 in income for community radio stations, and broadcasts weekly television programs on STV and STV Noticias, as well as the Xipalapala Info daily news podcast, which has some 3,000 subscribers, and a range of other podcasts. h2n produces community videos, educational videos and short documentaries, many of which are used in social and behavior change interventions or for a wide range of training purposes.
“We see ourselves as an action-oriented and field-oriented organization that works with advocacy and media on the national level and with community-based communication and engagement at the local level,” says Sergio Chusane, h2n executive director. “We focus on understanding the local context, build on the knowledge that already exists in the communities and empower the messengers, those who engage directly with media audiences or communities,” says Chusane.
