Working within the Five Pillar sustainability framework, a systematic approach to sustainability for community radios and other community-based organizations, h2n has been training community radio administrators and reports in Maputo and Gaza on a wide range of initiatives.
These include financial management, marketing, strategy, conflict management and creating an organizational culture that fosters creativity, transparency and team building. “The benefits of this partnership [with h2n] has been remarkable,” says Vírgilio Mungoi, coordinator at RC Manjacaze, outlining the progress he has seen over the last two years. “At first, we were focused on improving our broadcast but now we have been able to rehabilitate our building and pay our debts as well.” The Five Pillar sustainability framework puts equal emphasis on revenue generation, cost savings and operational efficiencies, all of which are important aspects of financial sustainability.
“We help the radio stations identify and analyze revenue generation opportunities that exist in their area, and together we see how this revenue can be realized,” says Sheynise Muzé, h2n project coordinator on the CRP2 project funded by the Norwegian Embassy.
h2n works with community-based communication, produces television programs and videos, organizes youth centers and pursues a comprehensive gender equality agenda.
