Head of EU delegation visits h2n, Midia Lab and TV Surdo, addressing education, gender and inclusion

On Thursday afternoon, the head of the EU delegation in Mozambique, Mr. Antonio Sánchez-Benedito Gaspar, visited h2n and its sister organizations Midia Lab and TV Surdo. The delegation was established in 1985 and represents the European Union in the country. The Ambassador spoke with staff members and recorded television interviews. “Without education, there is no future for the children or the country,” commented Ambassador Gaspar. “This is why the European Union and its partners have education as a main focus.” Mr. Gaspar commented on the need to strengthen the capacity of women and girls and referenced the Spotlight project, which aims to combat violence against women and girls. The Ambassador also discussed with staff members the link between Covid-19 prevention measures and the impact on women and girls, stating that this area is a priority for the European Union. On inclusion, the Ambassador praised the work of TV Surdo. “We are impressed with the work we have seen from TV Surdo and its sister organizations in the area of inclusive media,” commented Mr. Gaspar. “No person with disability, neither auditory nor visual nor any other, should be left behind,” he continued, emphasizing the need for inclusion, non-discrimination and mutual respect. An interview with Ambassador Gaspar will be included in the next edition of TV Surdo’s weekly television program, and another interview focused on Covid-19 will be featured in an upcoming episode of Saude & Vida, h2n’s weekly television program on health and well-being. h2n, which is primarily supported by Norway, works extensively with community radios, produces community videos, broadcasts the “Saude e Vida” television program on health and wellness, facilitates youth engagement hubs and pursues a rapidly expanding gender equality agenda.
